This MP hasn't come back to us- which way will he jump?
Says: The proposed amendments and consent wording now create a grey area I law will have a new layer of criminality. Abortion in NSW is not simply a medial matter- it is a criminal one. How do medical practitioners consider legal risks? A crime against a foetus is a crime against a woman.
Not sure he's got it right though.
member just addressed the gallery to say it's not often that you see a bipartisan approach for this and hear how members are exercising their conscience. Nice to know it's not his party who says women shouldn't control their own bodies, it's him personally. Reassuring!
Member for Marrickville has met with Donegans, has read the Campbell review, and attended the Parliamentary briefings. Says, We have a conscience vote and I understand what the Member for the Entrance is trying to achieve- but I have to weigh that against the evidence. I am concerned that this Bill despite the efforts will have consequences for access to safe abortion care. Shout out to OBOC members who have made contact to express concern. We are not misinformed, those who do not support this Bill. This is the first time in NSW personhood has been introduced into the law. Despite the attempts at exemptions, such laws establishing personhood criminalise women and jeopardise safe abortion care. This Bill May affect the availability of safe termination services in Australia. The AMA say the current definition is sufficient.
Summary: I've been on a journey, my head and my heart are consulted. What would doctors know about this stuff and the unintended consequences? Bill has an exemption and I'm happy with it, because I've taken it at face value. It's a lot about my life journey.
Our hard working CLCs just got a shout out on an unrelated matter from Alex Greenwich MP
Bill is on in 2 minutes- the bells are ringing!
